Rope team on the ridge of the Brandlammhorn

Grimsel

The crossing of the Brandlammhorn is a hidden gem in the Lauteraar region - wild, lonely and varied. Barely used ridges, great climbing sections and a real adventure in the middle of a magnificent high mountain landscape. First we climb over the stem onto the ridge, followed by airy but well-graded climbing to the summit. The descent leads northwards through impressive terrain - with a few short abseils before we reach easier terrain. From there, we continue our ascent to the Bächlitalhütte, where we end the fulfilling day with a look back at the tour. On the second day, another highlight awaits with the Alplistock crossing: shorter, but just as rewarding. We scramble over solid rock, abseil again and soon stand on another summit with great views. Two days - two ascents - and an impressive mountain world that is often overlooked. This is mountaineering away from the hustle and bustle - rough, quiet and beautiful.

  • Procedure and meeting place

    • Meeting place

11:35 a.m., Grimsel Pass Summer slump

We drive up the Furka and meet at 11.35 at the Grimsel, Summerloch stop.

    • Day 1 – Approach to the Lauteraar Hut

      950 metres altitude

      300 Hm

      4 h

We make a leisurely ascent to the Lauteraar Hut, passing the new Grimsel dam and the glacier monument on the way. Depending on how we feel, we may do some climbing in one of the surrounding climbing gardens or simply enjoy the magnificent view of the Finsteraarhorn with coffee and cake. A later ascent is also possible.

    • Day 2 – Crossing the Brandlammhorn

      800 metres altitude

      900Hm

      8 h

Today comes the first gem: we set off at dawn and walk in the morning glow to the start of the Brandlammhorn South Ridge. We get started right away, the first three pitches are wall-like and we scramble up to the ridge. Here, the sun greets us and invites us to take a break. Together, we continue along the sharp ridge. On excellent granite, we climb several small towers with easy scrambling and reach the summit. Here we enjoy the magnificent view and the view back to the Lauteraar Hut. Stefan from the Lauteraar Hut often takes a summit photo of us through his telescope :D. The descent first continues northwards over the ridge before there are several abseiling points to the east. We now reach easier terrain and walk cheerfully to the Bächlital Hut with brilliant new impressions. After a long day, we enjoy the evening atmosphere and a delicious dinner here.

    • Day 3 – Crossing the Alplistock

      500 Hm

      1000 Hm

      ZS-, 3c

      6 h

Once again, we set off at dawn and climb away from the stream to the start of the Alplistock south ridge. This is a shorter but rewarding ridge, also with an abseil point on the ascent and descent, and once again leads to perfect granite and great scrambling on the panoramic and pointed summit. The descent is entertaining with one abseiling point. Afterwards, we descend together and return to the Grimsel Pass, from where we return home with many new memories.

That's what our guests say:

  • Erich Wälchli

With his charisma of calm and security, Clint always conveys the confidence that you will always be surprised to have completed a pitch. Clint lives the values of Bergschaft, community, rope team and friendship in his own endearing way. The same applies to Simon, it was great to see how the two of them harmonised with each other during the planning/leading. Crossing Brandlammhorn and Alplistock, August 2025

Simon and Clint have taken us to the Brandlammhorn and the Alplistock traverse. Both climbs and the views were amazing. I had a really great time and I would certainly recommend Simon and Clint!
