Deepen your knowledge and skills in Level 2 high-altitude mountaineering coaching. From planning right through to putting it into practice on specific sections, we’ll coach you on an individual basis. We’ll provide you with constructive feedback and you’ll learn the tricks that professional mountain guides use in their work. The area around the Gleckstein and Dossenhütte, with its mountains and ridges, offers us the perfect training ground. The routes are varied and exciting! We’ll be climbing multi-pitch and micro-pitch routes; in some cases, we’ll be belaying from mobile belay stations and learning efficient rope handling techniques. We’ll learn to recognise potential hazards and respond appropriately. In doing so, we’ll explore the various ways to stay as safe as possible whilst out in the mountains.
Our high-altitude mountaineering coaching sessions offer you ideal learning opportunities. Join us to gain confidence, hone your skills and boost your self-assurance in alpine terrain.
Prerequisite: You already have alpine touring experience or have even attended one of our preparation courses and are able to lead a rope team.
We’ll meet either at Grindelwald railway station at 9.40 am or at the Gleckstein junction at 10.26 am. The bus to the Gleckstein junction leaves Grindelwald railway station at 10.04 am.
Together we climb up to the Glecksteinhütte in about 2.5 hours.
We’ll get straight into the first training sessions and a review of what we’ve learnt. The Schildkrötligrat and the surrounding climbing areas are ideal for practising and picking up new tips and tricks.

Today we’re heading for the Wetterhorn. A magnificent summit offering stunning views, with everything that makes mountaineering so rewarding. The ascent takes us up the rocky Willsgrätli ridge, across to the Wettersattel and on to the summit. The descent is via the Rosenlaui Glacier to the Dossenhütte. Here, we’ll have time once again to work on all the topics and provide you with individual coaching.
The last day offers us another wonderful opportunity to apply the techniques we have learnt on the Tossen crossing. An easy yet impressive tour to the Dossenhütte's local mountain (grade III-).
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
