Clariden High-Altitude Hike | Day trip from Klausen Pass with a mountain guide
The Clariden is one of the most beautiful alpine tour classics in Central Switzerland.
The Clariden is one of the most impressive peaks between Glarus and Uri. Its elegant profile combines glacier crossings, airy ridges and magnificent views to create a classic high-altitude tour with a distinctive alpine character. On Saturday, we make the most of the favourable weather forecast and set off from the Klausen Pass towards the summit at first light. We gain altitude rapidly via the Iswändli, traverse the Claridenfirn and reach the panoramic summit ridge. The final few metres lead up a short, steeper rocky section, which is made easier by a chain. Securely roped to the mountain guide and with crampons on our feet, we reach the summit step by step. At the top, an impressive panorama awaits us, stretching from the Uri and Glarus Alps to the Bernese four-thousanders and the Valais mountains. After a well-deserved rest at the summit, we descend via the same route back to the Klausen Pass, where we’re already enjoying a cool drink whilst the forecast heat thunderstorms build up on the horizon. With many wonderful memories to take home with us, we set off on our journey back.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet at the Klausen Pass. The mountain guide is travelling from the Zurich Oberland and is offering a lift. You participants can also organise carpooling amongst yourselves.
Alternatively, you could also at the hotel on the Klausen Pass Stay overnight and arrive the evening before, or spend the night in a campervan or tent on the pass.
We start early in the morning at the Klausen Pass. We ascend through the picturesque Uri Valley and after a while reach the glacier and the Iswändli. On the west ridge of the Clariden, we come across a rocky upswing that is defused by a chain. We reach the summit safely on the mountain guide's rope. Descent as ascent back to the Klausen Pass.
We finish the tour back at the Klausen Pass.
