Piz Kesch, Graubünden

Piz Kesch is one of the best-known and most beautiful high-altitude mountains in Graubünden. In two days, we experience a well-rounded high-altitude adventure: ascent to the hut, good preparation, an early start and an impressive summit with sweeping views over the Engadin and the Bernina group.

We start in Naz and climb up to the Keschhütte together. After settling in and a short briefing, we take our time to prepare for the summit day: Equipment check, tour plan, weather and programme. In the evening we enjoy the cosy hut atmosphere and not least the warm hospitality of the hut team.

We start early on the second day: we reach the summit of Piz Kesch via glacier and firn passages. A classic high-altitude tour with a high-alpine ambience and the perfect introduction for anyone who wants to experience their first high-alpine conditions or consolidate their high-altitude touring routine. After the summit, we descend back to the hut and on to Naz in the valley.

  • Procedure and meeting place

A classic 2-day tour to Piz Kesch with overnight stay in a hut. Perfect for anyone who wants to experience a real high-altitude tour in a small group.

    • Meeting place

09:35, Tuors Chants bus stop, Piz Kesch Naz mountain hut

We’ll meet at the Berghaus Piz Kesch in Naz, at the Val Tuors Chants bus stop. The Alpin bus will take you there comfortably from Bergün railway station; a booking is required, and you can buy your ticket via SBB. After a welcome from the mountain guide, we’ll check our equipment together and briefly discuss the itinerary for the next two days.

    • Day 1: Approach to the hut

      820 metres altitude

      2 - 3 hours

From Naz, we ascend together at a leisurely pace to the Keschhütte. Once at the top, we set up camp, enjoy the hut atmosphere and are warmly welcomed by the hut team. In the early evening, we have a short briefing and prepare for the summit day. After a delicious dinner, we wind down the evening and go to bed early.

    • Day 2: Piz Kesch summit day & return to Naz

      810 metres altitude

      1650 metres altitude

      WS

      8 - 9 hours

We set off early in the morning with headlamps towards the summit. Step by step, we reach the high alpine terrain around Piz Kesch via firn and glacier passages. Depending on the conditions, we move along the rope and use crampons and ice axes where necessary. At the summit, we enjoy the view over the Engadin and the surrounding peaks before descending back to the hut along the same route. After a short break and refreshment at the Keschhütte, we make the descent back to Naz, where our 2-day high-altitude tour ends.
