Climbing tour in Glarus | Solitary crossing from the Rautispitz
Solitary and varied scrambling tour along the ridge between sun and shade.
The Rautispitz rises strikingly at the entrance to the Glarnerland. A lonely, almost forgotten ridge tour leads to its panoramic summit, promising impressive moments. The ascent begins in a quiet forest and continues over pathless terrain up to the ridge. There, the edge becomes an impressive playground between sun and shade. The climbing is mostly in the second degree of difficulty, in places also in the third degree, and is easy to master with mountain boots. A passage in the fourth degree is the key section - but here the mountain guide ensures the necessary safety, can defuse it well and accompanies you confidently over it. We have never met another rope team on this ridge before! With an altitude difference of around 1250 metres, the tour is challenging, but ideal for enjoying a whole day to the full.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet at Näfels station and drive together to Obersee.
The approach leads through a pretty forest and then without a path along the ridge to the start.
The east ridge leads to the summit of the Rautispitz. The ridge offers plenty of climbing. At times it’s a bit easier, at others a bit more exciting. In between, there are also frequent flatter sections of the ridge. The difficulty is often moderate, at grades II and III. The crux is grade IV. However, it is only a short section and can be made much easier and properly secured by the mountain guide. So a magnificent route on sharp limestone awaits you! At the summit, we can enjoy the magnificent views of the Churfirsten and the Glarus Alps!
The descent is a leisurely walk back to the Obersee and from there home. A refreshing dip in the Obersee awaits us!
We finish the tour together with a refreshing swim in the Obersee before travelling back to Mollis by car.
