Ski tour Louwihorn and Lötschenlücke

After the heavy snowfall of the last few days, we can expect fantastic weather this week. Spring is greeting us in the valleys, while the snow conditions in the higher regions are still really beautiful. We take advantage of this combination for a special, downhill-orientated ski tour through one of the most impressive high mountain landscapes in the Alps.
We start together at Jungfraujoch and dive straight into the mighty glacier world of the Bernese Oberland. After a first short descent, we climb around 500 metres in altitude to the Louwitor, with the option of continuing on to the Louwihorn. This is followed by a magnificent descent over the Kranzbergfirn with sweeping views of the Aletschhorn and the surrounding peaks.
After another moderate ascent of around 300 metres in altitude, we reach the Lötschenlücke at the Hollandiahütte. From here, the grand finale awaits: a long, enjoyable descent to Blatten.
Blatten rockslide: For the danger zone after the rockfall, a secured corridor was opened on 20 February 2026, which allows us to descend into the Lötschental and cross the valley safely. This corridor leads over a counter ascent of 200 metres via Weissenried to Blatten.
Procedure and meeting place
We meet on the Jungfraujoch, right by the first coffee bar after arriving from the train. After being greeted by the mountain guide, we start our tour together.
After a first short descent from the Jungfraujoch, we head up 500 metres to the Louwitor and possibly to the Louwihorn to descend in a cool descent over the Kranzbergfirn. After a further 300 metre ascent, we reach the Lötschenlücke at the Hollandiahütte and descend to the Fafleralp, from where the post bus takes us back home.
We finish the tour together in the Lötschental and at a railway station for the return journey.
Requirements
- Mastering the ski touring technique with its basics (skins, hairpin turns).
- Safe downhill technique in open terrain and in different types of snow.
- Condition for ski tours with around 800hm at a comfortable pace (~300hm/h).
- Condition for 1500m descent in different types of snow.
- Please note: the tour goes up to 3800m, it is important to be fit and healthy to better tolerate the altitude.
- An earlier arrival or a ski tour in the last week is recommended in order to acclimatise to the altitude.
Price and services
- CHF 225.-
- Small group with 4 - 6 guests per mountain guide.
- Including planning and realisation with mountain guide and his travel expenses.
- Excluding travel expenses, possible train tickets, personal consumption.
- The train ticket up to the Jungfraujoch can be purchased directly in the SBB app.

Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
