Would you like to discover the wonderful world of mountaineering? Climb together over wide glaciers, reach mountain peaks with great views, enjoy the morning atmosphere in the mountains and experience a little adventure with mountain enthusiasts? This taster alpine tour is the ideal introduction to mountaineering. On the first day, we will focus on basic techniques, tips and tricks for rock climbing and scrambling. On the second day, we enter the glacier: you learn how to walk with crampons, we practise important basics and marvel at the impressive glacier phenomena. The crowning glory is the joint ascent of a beautiful summit - with an impressive view and the experience of your first high-altitude tour in your pocket.

  • Course content and procedure

    • Day 1 - Course start Welcome and getting to know each other

      We get to know each other and clarify your expectations.

    • Day 1 - Approach to the hut and training

      We start with the course and explain the exact procedure and go into the course content. On the first day, we will get to know the basics of alpine touring near the hut.

      Daily destination: You will learn the basics of mountaineering and gain your first experience. You will acquire knowledge of techniques that will give you confidence on tour.

      • Climbing with mountain boots and crampons
      • Handling crampons and ice axe
      • Pimple brake
      • Abseiling

    • Day 2 - Learning and applying

      During an application tour, we repeat what we learnt the day before and learn new things.

      Daily destination: You build on what you have learnt and become more confident in its application. You will gain a clear impression of what alpine tours are and what you need for alpine touring.

      • Walking with ice axe and crampons on the glacier
      • Rope types
      • Summit happiness

    • Conclusion

  • Venues

    Clariden

    We start at a leisurely pace and take the cable car up to the Fisetengrat and hike to the idyllically situated Claridenhütte. The rocks around the hut are perfect for practising rope skills. On the second day, we head to the Clariden glacier and the summit of Gemsfairen. Here we practise using ice axes and crampons and enjoy the panorama of Tödi and co!

    • Area: Claridenhütte, Glarus
    • Meeting point: 9.16 a.m. in Linthal, onward journey in carpools or by Alpine taxi to Urnerboden
    • Conclusion: approx. 15.00 on the Urnerboden
    • Overnight stay: Claridenhütte

    Furka

    We start comfortably with a coffee at the Hotel Tiefenbach and walk from there to the Albert Heim hut. There are lovely scrambling opportunities around the hut to practise using ropes and moving around on the rock. On the second day we set off early to practise using ice axes and crampons on the glacier and to reach our first small summit. We climb to the upper Bielenlücke and enjoy the magnificent panorama of the Valais 4,000 metre peaks from there. The round tour takes us comfortably back to the Furka Pass road.

    • Area: Realp, Uri
    • Meeting point: 9.30 a.m. in Realp, onward journey in carpools or by Alpine taxi to the Furka Pass
    • Conclusion: approx. 15.00 in Realp
    • Overnight stay: Albert-Heim hut

    Susten

    We meet at the Steingletscher car park and bus stop and walk together to the Tierbergli hut. We already enter the glacier on the ascent. There are nice scrambling opportunities around the hut to practise rope handling and moving around on the rock. On the second day, we set off early to practise using ice axes and crampons on the glacier and to reach our first small summit. We climb the Vorderer Tierberg and enjoy the magnificent panorama of the Uri mountains from there.

    • Area: Susten Pass
    • Meeting point: 9.30 a.m. at the Steingletscher car park, arrival in car pools or by Alpine taxi.
    • Conclusion: approx. 15.00 at the same location
    • Overnight stay: Tierberglihütte
  • Requirements

    • No previous experience is necessary.
    • Experience in hiking and walking in pathless terrain is an advantage.
    • Stamina for alpine tours with around 800 metres ascent and descent at a leisurely pace (~300m/h)

    • Small group with 4 - 6 guests per mountain guide.
    • Including planning and realisation with mountain guide and his travel expenses.
    • Including overnight stay in a hut with half board
    • Excluding travel expenses, possible train tickets, personal consumption.

Information on endurance and technique

Here you will find the organisation of our tours as a guideline. If you are unsure which level suits you best, feel free to get in touch - We can help you!

Technics

Technology 1 - for beginners

Easy tours, suitable for beginners. The terrain is easy and moderate. No previous mountaineering experience is necessary.

High toursExperience in hiking and walking in pathless terrain. No previous knowledge of mountaineering necessary.

Technique 2 - Leisurely tours

Easy to slightly challenging tours with short, steeper sections that we master together and with coaching. You are ready for this level after a basic or taster course.

High toursYou know the basics of using ice axes and crampons. There are easy scrambling sections up to 1° difficulty.

Technique 3 - Medium tours

Medium-difficulty tours with short, technical sections that are easy to do with some previous experience. You have already done a few tours and feel confident with your equipment and technique.

High toursYou have practice walking with ice axe and crampons. There are scrambling sections up to the 2nd level of difficulty.

Technique 4 - First big tours

Challenging tours with longer, steeper passages that require a good level of experience and skill. We secure these sections with ropes and coach you through difficult sections. Suitable for adventure-seekers with solid basic training.

High toursYou have experience with ice axes and crampons and you can move efficiently on easy rocky terrain. There are scrambling sections up to the 3rd level of difficulty.

Technique 5 - Grand tours

Very demanding tours, with technical passages that require a good level of experience and skill. These are secured, but smooth, rapid progress is required. For experienced climbers with plenty of experience and a thirst for adventure.

High toursYou have extensive experience with ice axes and crampons. You move efficiently and safely in alpine terrain. Climbing routes up to the 4th level of difficulty.

Endurance

Endurance 1 - Easy tours

Easy tours with plenty of time to take a break and enjoy.

  • Elevation gain: approx. 500 - 800 metres per day, 
  • Pace: approx. 250 - 300 m / h.
Endurance 2 - Leisurely tours

"Normal" tour at a leisurely pace with 800 - 1000 vertical metres per day, ~300 hm / h.

Endurance 3 - Medium tours

Longer tours at a steady, fluid pace. A solid basic level of fitness is required here.

  • Elevation gain: approx. 1200 metres per day
  • Pace: approx. 350 m / h.
Endurance 4 - First big tours

Long and challenging tours at a brisk but constant pace. Ideal for active sports enthusiasts.

  • Elevation gain: up to 1500 metres per day
  • Pace: approx. 350 m / h.
Endurance 5 - Long tours

Very long tours with more than 1500 metres in altitude per day. Requires very good fitness and stamina.

  • Elevation metres: 1500 m + per day
  • Pace: approx. 400 m / h.
