Bishorn 4,153 m | Mountain trek to an easy four-thousander
A particularly beautiful high-altitude hike, perfect for crossing the magical 4,000-metre mark for the first time. The panoramic view from the summit will stay with you for a long time to come.

At 4,153 metres, the Bishorn is one of the easier four-thousand-metre peaks in the Alps and is a popular destination for that very reason. ‘Easy’ does not, however, mean undemanding: we’ll be walking on the glacier, climbing over firn with crampons and spending a long day in high-alpine terrain. Our adventure begins in Zinal. From here, we ascend through the Val de Zinal to the Cabane de Tracuit. We have an ascent of almost 1,600 metres ahead of us before, in the evening, we can enjoy the impressive views of the Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, Dent Blanche and Mont Blanc from the hut. We set off early the next morning. Equipped with headlamps, we leave the hut and ascend across the Turtmann Glacier towards the Bishorn. Step by step, we gain altitude, whilst all around us the Valais four-thousanders awaken in the morning sun. After climbing around 900 metres in altitude, we reach the summit at 4,153 metres. Once at the top, the world of the Valais Alps lies at our feet. The view of the Weisshorn, directly opposite, is particularly impressive. We then descend back to the Cabane de Tracuit. After a well-deserved break, we head back to Zinal. Anyone wishing to extend the experience can spend an extra night at the hut and make a leisurely descent into the valley the following day.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet in Zinal and set off together towards the Cabane de Tracuit.
The long climb to the mountain hut takes us through the stunning mountain scenery of the Val de Zinal. The higher we climb, the more breathtaking the views of the surrounding four-thousand-metre peaks become. Once we arrive at the hut, there is time to settle in, relax and prepare for the day of the summit attempt.
Early in the morning, we set off across the Turtmann Glacier by the light of our headlamps. The route takes us through a vast high-alpine glacial landscape to the summit of the Bishorn. Once at the top, a magnificent panorama awaits us, with views of the Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, Dent Blanche and the other four-thousand-metre peaks of Valais. We then descend back to the Cabane de Tracuit. After a break and some refreshments, we carry on to Zinal. Anyone wishing to round off the day’s climb at a more leisurely pace can spend another night at the hut.
We conclude these tour days together in Zinal and start our individual journey home with many new impressions in our luggage.

Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
