Climbing trip Chamonix | Aiguilles Rouges | Mont Blanc
Climbing in magnificent red granite in the historic climbing paradise of Chamonix and Aiguilles Rouges!
Highlights
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc - a name that stands for spectacular mountain landscapes, magnificent climbing routes and a long alpine history. Located in the French Alps, Chamonix offers an unrivalled backdrop for climbing enthusiasts. Directly opposite the Mont Blanc massif is the Aiguilles Rouges mountain range - a paradise for rock climbers. The red granite towers offer a variety of well-secured multi-pitch routes of moderate difficulty and are known for their impressive views of Mont Blanc and the Chamonix valley. Here you can also see the glacier from the village!
Climbing trip
Together, we’ll spend five days in this climbing mecca. Chamonix is easily accessible from Switzerland by train or by carpool. On the very first day, we’ll head to one of the crags in the valley with short multi-pitch routes. We’ll start by refreshing our knowledge of the key multi-pitch techniques so that, over the following days, we can explore the region’s various multi-pitch routes together. There are countless routes graded 4 and 5, and the climbing is varied, featuring ledges, cracks and dikes on superb red granite, always with views of the mighty Mont Blanc massif. We’ll be climbing in the Aiguilles Rouges, in Montroc or on the Le Châtelard-Frontière pass. Depending on the conditions, we’ll select the most beautiful routes and enjoy unforgettable days in one of Europe’s most stunning mountain landscapes. This tour is perfect for climbers with some experience of multi-pitch climbing who want to improve their technique and climb in a breathtaking alpine setting.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet at 10.45 am at Chamonix-Mont-Blanc station.
Travel to Chamonix-Mont-Blanc; meeting point: 10.45 am at Chamonix-Mont-Blanc railway station or in Martigny, followed by a carpool to the venue. First climbing routes at a climbing area right in Chamonix. Revision or refresher on multi-pitch climbing techniques. We’ll go over belay station set-up, rope handling, belaying techniques and abseiling to ensure we’re fully prepared for the upcoming tours.
Chamonix lies just behind the Valais in France. We spend the night in the village of Chamonix and take the cable cars to the various climbing spots. We enjoy the rock especially at the countless possibilities at the Aiguilles Rouges or in Mont Roc or on the pass Le Châtelard-Frontière. There are countless routes with 4-8 pitches in the best red granite in the 4th and 5th degree of difficulty.
Depending on your preferences, we’ll climb a variety of routes. You’ll have the option of enjoying a guided climb or leading the way yourself. The focus is on enjoyable climbing in spectacular surroundings. You’ll also receive tips from the mountain guide on climbing techniques and belaying, as the granite here is ideal for placing friends and wedges. The programme includes a variety of climbs on ledges, cracks, dihedrals and exposed ridges.
Chamonix also offers a lot of climbing and mountaineering history. It is worth visiting the mountain guide museum and the other localities together in one evening.
We’ll go on a final tour together and enjoy the fantastic rock formations in this spectacular setting one last time. We’ll then set off for home in the middle of the afternoon.
We’ll round off the course together over a leisurely cup of coffee and look back on the past few days before setting off for home.
