Gastlosentürme climbing route | Traverse with a mountain guide
The Gastlosen mountain range along the border between the cantons of Bern and Fribourg is a sight to behold, with its towering limestone peaks and vertical rock faces.

The striking limestone peaks of the Gastlosen are not called the «Dolomites of Switzerland» without good reason. Their rugged ridge stretches for several kilometres through the Fribourg Pre-Alps and offers some of the finest climbing in the region. Our traverse takes us over varied ridge sections, exposed rock towers and grippy limestone. Simple climbing sections alternate repeatedly with short, exposed passages, making the route a varied alpine experience. Along the way, we’ll enjoy fantastic views down into the Sense and Jaun valleys, as well as impressive vistas of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and the peaks of the Fribourg Pre-Alps. As well as the climbing itself, the tour is particularly captivating thanks to its wild landscape and varied route. Anyone who enjoys exposed ridges, solid rock and classic alpine routes will love this traverse.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet in Spiez in the morning and drive together to the Oberberg car park.
From the Oberberg car park, we set off on our traverse of the Gastlosen to the start of the route. A varied ridge climb across the solid limestone of the Gastlosen awaits us. Time and again, exposed ridge sections alternate with enjoyable climbing passages and small towers. Throughout the entire route, we are treated to impressive views down into the depths as well as a magnificent panorama across the Fribourg Pre-Alps and the Bernese Alps.
After crossing the pass, we’ll head back down via the signposted mountain path and continue on to the Oberberg car park. We’ll then drive back together to Spiez, where our tour ends.
