Secluded ridge walks in Ticino | Pizzo del Prevat & Campolungo with a mountain guide
Climb along secluded and deserted ridges, then enjoy a refreshing dip in a mountain lake – spend a weekend in the wild countryside of Ticino.
Immerse yourself in the enchanting and unspoilt mountain landscape of the Valle Leventina and enjoy an unforgettable weekend of climbing. On the first day, you’ll tackle the fascinating ridge climb up to the striking rock spire of the Pizzo del Prevat (2,557 m above sea level) is on the itinerary. Under the expert guidance of your mountain guide, you’ll climb over grippy gneiss and master exposed sections on your way to the summit, which rewards you with a breathtaking panorama over Ticino. After the descent, the perfect way to unwind awaits us: a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear mountain lake, Lago di Leit. We’ll round off the evening in the cosy atmosphere of the mountain hut, Capanna Leit. The second day features the impressive ridge walk to the Pizzo Campolungo (2,713 m above sea level). On this magnificent and secluded route, you can look forward to a varied scramble, where the striking, light-coloured dolomite marble of the Campolungo region provides a fascinating contrast to the rugged alpine surroundings. High up on the ridge, you can savour the tranquillity of nature to the full. These two days thus offer you the perfect combination of a physical challenge on the ridge and pure relaxation amidst the wild, romantic beauty of the Leventina.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet in Rodi at the cable car station (Funivia). If you’re travelling by public transport, get off the bus at the Rodi, Posta stop – it arrives at 09:54 (it’s a 1-minute walk to the valley station). If you’re coming by car, you can park right by the valley station. If we’re carpooling, we’ll adjust the time slightly so that we can set off a bit earlier. Together, we’ll take the cable car up to Lago Tremorgio.
On the approach, we climb 400 metres in altitude to the foot of the Pizzo del Prevat. In a rope team with two guests per mountain guide, we scramble up the north-east ridge. The climbing is consistent, on compact, beautiful gneiss, graded at third and fourth degree with a short 5a section. The descent follows the south-east ridge and is an exciting mix of walkable terrain and sections requiring scrambling.
At Lago di Leit, we enjoy a refreshing swim and then spend the evening enjoying a delicious dinner and a cosy get-together at the cosy Capanna Leit.
After a hearty breakfast, we get ready for our second ridge climb. The approach leads over two small passes to the start of the Campolungo South Ridge. It’s an easy yet very varied scramble with hourglass-shaped sections and excellent rock quality. The climbing is graded at levels two and three. Once we’ve scrambled our way up this gem, we savour the moment at the summit with its impressive views. We then descend back to the cable car, which takes us the final few metres of elevation down into the valley.
Together, we finish the tour back in Rodi and set off for home with fond memories.
