Powder, panorama and Italian lifestyle. The Valle Maira is tucked away in south-west Piedmont, on the border with France. A pristine valley and a true paradise for ski tourers. Away from mass tourism, lonely peaks, wide slopes and ski tours with a real spirit of discovery await us.

We benefit from the local knowledge of our accommodation’s mountain guide, who knows the area inside out, and discover new routes and hidden ascents every day. Sometimes leisurely, sometimes challenging, but always rewarding. Thanks to our southern exposure, we enjoy plenty of sunshine, fantastic powder slopes and views all the way down to the sea. Our base is the Locanda Mistral, a cosy, family-run accommodation full of charm. Here we enjoy home-cooked Piedmontese cuisine, delicious primi and secondi, excellent coffee and a glass of wine to round off a successful day’s touring. These days are ideal for anyone who wants to venture off the beaten track, seeking peace, enjoyment and nature, and wishing to experience authentic Italy. With skis on your feet and a smile on your face.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll either meet directly in the Valle Maira at the Locanda Mistral or travel as a group from Switzerland to the Valle Maira by carpool. The journey takes around 6 hours.
After a relaxed journey, we check into the hotel and see what else the afternoon has to offer. We can explore the surrounding area or try out the hotel's sauna straight away.
Over the next few days, we’ll be exploring the wonderful Valle Maira region together. Freshly covered in snow, this corner of Italy offers some of the most beautiful ski tours, starting right from the hotel and in the immediate vicinity. After a good workout, you’ll have the chance to use the hotel’s sauna in the afternoon. In the evening, we’ll treat ourselves to a local five-course meal.
We always plan the next day’s ski tours in the evening, together as a group. We take everyone’s preferences into account and decide what suits our group best. We plan the tours so that we spread our energy evenly throughout the week.
After a final ski tour on Sunday, we travel back home together or individually with many new experiences.
Requirements
- Mastering the ski touring technique with its basics (skins, hairpin turns).
- Safe downhill technique in open terrain and in different types of snow.
- Fitness level required for ski tours covering 1,000–1,200 metres of elevation gain at a leisurely pace (~300 metres of elevation gain per hour).
- Condition for 1200m of descent in different types of snow.
- Splitboarders are welcome.
Price and services
- CHF 1890.-
- Small group with 4 - 6 guests per mountain guide.
- Includes accommodation in a twin room and half-board.
- Including professional planning and realisation with a mountain guide and his travel expenses.
- Travel costs not included, any train tickets, and personal expenses.

Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
