Dolomites

The Dolomites are among the most impressive mountain landscapes in Europe. Striking rock towers, vast plateaus and varied ski tours make this region a unique destination for anyone seeking something out of the ordinary. Over five days, we’ll traverse the most beautiful mountain ranges of the Dolomites, experiencing a new landscape every day – from the gentle slopes around the Rolle Pass, through the mighty Marmolada, to the world-famous Three Peaks. Wherever practical, we’ll use mountain cable cars to assist with the ascents. This allows us to reach the most beautiful peaks and link together the region’s most spectacular descents. The ascents remain manageable, whilst we spend as much time as possible on the sweeping slopes and amongst the striking rock formations of the Dolomites. Whether powder snow or firn – each stage has its own character and offers ever-changing views of the fascinating rocky landscape of this UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. We stay overnight in cosy mountain inns and huts along the route. After eventful days on the slopes, we’ll enjoy the excellent South Tyrolean-Italian cuisine and reflect together on the day’s experiences.

  • Procedure and meeting place

    • Day 1: Arrival in the Dolomites

We’ll travel together in car-shares from Switzerland to Dobbiaco.* From there, we’ll take a shared transfer to Passo Rolle, the starting point of our ski traverse through the Dolomites. Today we’ll get to know one another and take our time settling in on the southern side of the Alps. We’ll be staying overnight in a traditional guesthouse on the Passo Rolle. Over dinner together, we’ll discuss the week’s itinerary, take a look at the weather and avalanche conditions, and get in the right frame of mind for our upcoming ski traverse through one of the most impressive mountain landscapes in the Alps.

*Of course, it’s also possible to join the group directly in Dobbiaco.

    • Day 2: Start of the ski traverse through the Dolomites

      800 - 1200 metres altitude

      2,200 – 2,500 metres of elevation gain

      7 - 8 h

Today marks the start of our ski traverse through the Dolomites. From Passo Rolle, we’ll ascend into the stunning mountain landscape of the Pale di San Martino and cross Passo Mulaz. If conditions are good, we’ll also tackle Piz Mulaz. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a wonderfully exhilarating descent to Molino in Falcade. Here, we’ll spend the night in a traditional guesthouse.

    • Day 3: Out and about in the heart of the Dolomites

      700 Hm

      2200 metres altitude

      approx. 6 hours

From Falcade, we take the lift up to Col Margherita and enjoy a descent to Passo di San Pellegrino. We put our skins on and make our way via the Rifugio Flora Alpina to Forca Rossa. From there, we ski down to Malga Ciapela. From there, we take the lift to the famous Marmolada, the highest peak in the Dolomites. Up here, we enjoy the view as far as the eye can see. We then ski down to Lago di Fedaia, where we’ll be staying for the night.

    • Day 4: Travelling through the heart of the Dolomites

      750 metres altitude

      2300 metres altitude

      7 - 8 h

Today we’re in for one of the most spectacular stages of the traverse. From Lago di Fedaia, we’ll first ascend to Porta Vescovo. We’ll then make strategic use of the mountain cable cars to link up the most beautiful ski touring areas in the Dolomites. Via the Pordoi Pass, we reach Sass Pordoi, from where we tackle the panoramic ascent to Piz Boè. After reaching the summit, the descent through the impressive Val Mezdi (Mittagstal) is an absolute highlight of the trip. The long and varied descent takes us all the way to Kolfuschg. A transfer then takes us to the Passo Falzarego. From there, the cable car takes us up to the spectacularly situated Rifugio Lagazuoi, where we round off the day with a unique view of the Dolomites. As well as its views, this rifugio also boasts a sauna barrel for relaxation.

    • Day 5: from Rifugio Lagazuoi to Lago d’Antorno

After a memorable night high above the Dolomites, another special day of hiking awaits us. At a leisurely pace, we’ll make our way through the tranquil mountain landscape up to a summit offering stunning views, where we’ll enjoy a fantastic panorama of the Dolomites. This is followed – snow conditions permitting – by a dreamlike descent almost all the way to Cortina d’Ampezzo. From there, a transfer takes us to Lago Antorno, where we settle into our beds at the rifugio. We reflect on the experiences of the past few days over dinner together.

    • Day 6: Past the Three Peaks to Sexten

      650 Hm

      1000 Hm

      6 h

On the final day of our ski traverse, the Three Peaks offer yet another scenic highlight. From the Rifugio Lago d’Antorno, we ascend to the Rifugio Auronzo and then head directly to the world-famous Three Peaks via the Forcella Lavaredo. The imposing rock faces provide a spectacular finale to our traverse of the Dolomites. After a final rest at the summit, we enjoy the long descent through the Altenstein Valley and on through the idyllic Fischlein Valley to Sexten. This is where our ski traverse ends. After a short transfer back to Dobbiaco, we set off on our journey home, taking with us many lasting memories and unique ski-touring experiences. The ski traverse ends back in Dobbiaco. There is also the option to stay for another night or over the weekend, which we can highly recommend. Among other things, the valley is known for its fantastic wellness hotels, where you can relax wonderfully. A tip from us: the Hotel Hirben in Niederdorf.
