Taster high tour | Glärnisch and Vrenelisgärtli - easy high tours with a mountain guide
These taster tours give you the opportunity to gain an insight into mountaineering.
We move around in the rock, on glaciers, abseil and learn the basics of rope handling. We practise knots, rope up, use crampons and move around with an ice axe.
After these days, you will have an idea of what it means to go on an alpine tour and can safely sign up for easy alpine tours.
Our aim is to climb the Vrenelisgärtli together, a varied and beautiful tour.

Procedure and content
On the first day, we tackle the hut approach together and learn how to rope up with a climbing harness. To improve our stepping and walking technique, we move around the rock in a playful way. In the evening, we discuss what it means to plan a tour and to be safe and prepared in the mountains. The next day, we will go to the glacier together and learn the basics of walking with crampons and the necessary side techniques on the glacier. On the third day we climb the Vrenelisgärtli together and apply the basics we have learnt. These are three very eventful and instructive days.
Requirements
- No previous experience is necessary.
- Experience in hiking and walking in pathless terrain is an advantage.
- Condition for short alpine tours with around 800hm ascent and descent at a comfortable pace (~250hm/h).
Group size
- Takes place with up to 4 guests per mountain guide.
Price and services
- CHF 690.-
- Including planning and realisation with mountain guide and his travel expenses.
- Excluding travel expenses, possible train tickets, personal consumption.

- For this tour you need the following material from this PDF. We carry our equipment with us all the time. Pack only what is necessary.
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
Accommodation
Glärnischhütte
The Glärnisch Hut lies at the foot of the imposing Glärnisch massif and is the ideal starting point for a hike to the Vrenelisgärtli and the surrounding peaks. Following its recent renovation, the hut now has a modern, cosy and welcoming feel, without having lost any of its original charm. Hut warden Fridli and his team put their heart and soul into creating a warm atmosphere and providing excellent food. After an eventful day in the mountains, it’s a wonderful place to relax and look forward to the next day’s hike.
