Clariden, Glarus – Uri
The Clariden is one of the most impressive peaks between Glarus and Uri. Its elegant traverse offers an unforgettable alpine experience: a mix of glacier crossings, exposed ridges and magnificent views stretching from the Bernese Alps to the Valais. From the Clariden Hut, we set off at dawn, climbing up across the Claridenfirn, crossing glaciers and reaching the summit ridge. The final section to the summit leads over a short, somewhat steeper firn ridge. With crampons on our feet and securely roped to the mountain guide, we climb higher step by step and are rewarded with a panorama that is second to none. The traverse takes us down the Uri side, past impressive glacial crevasses and into the picturesque Uri region. This tour is also ideal for mountaineers looking to gain valuable experience on their first high-altitude tours. The tour is technically varied, spectacular and has a wonderful alpine character.
Procedure and meeting place
We meet and gather at Urnerboden in the morning.
We take the cable car to the Fisetengrat and hike together from there to the Claridenhütte. We will do some more climbing around the hut and take some time to look after our equipment. Together we enjoy a delicious Z`Nacht in the Claridenhütte and discuss the day ahead.
We start early in the morning after a hearty breakfast and make our way to the summit of the Clariden. Once at the top, we enjoy the panorama and the distance travelled before continuing along the west ridge and tackling the descent to the Klausen Pass.
At the Klausen Pass we take a taxi and drive back together to the Urnerboden car park
Requirements
- No prior knowledge is required.
- Experience in hiking and walking in pathless terrain.
- You’ll need to be fit enough for high-altitude hikes involving an ascent and descent of around 800hm at a leisurely pace (~300hm/h).
- Experience with crampons and an ice axe is an advantage.

- Small group with 4 - 6 guests per mountain guide.
- Including planning and realisation with mountain guide and his travel expenses.
- Including overnight stay in a hut with half board.
- Excluding travel expenses, possible train tickets, personal consumption.

Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
