Cleanclimbing Cadarese | crack climbing with a mountain guide
Crack climbing, mobile belaying and solid trad skills - learn the art of clean climbing with us in Cadarese!
Why does crack climbing always look so calm and effortless in climbing films? Many people ask themselves this question - and the answer is obvious: the climbers have mastered the right technique. In this course, we will teach you exactly these techniques and expand your repertoire of movements with a very special form of climbing. You will learn how to “jam” crack routes in the toprope, what „left side in“ means and how a clean „lock“ works. We'll show you how to make your own crack gloves from tape and which mobile belay devices are used when, how and where.
Cadarese is considered the crack climbing area of the Alps: countless routes and cracks are waiting to be explored. Many of them are easily accessible and can be climbed as single pitches with traditional protection. This gives you the perfect opportunity to gain lots of new experiences, improve your technical skills and significantly improve your climbing level.
Procedure and course content
We will meet in Brig. If possible, we will travel in carpools or hire a car and get to know each other during the journey. As we can drive over the Simplon Pass from Brig, we will be spared the Gotthard traffic jam! Please let us know when you register whether you are travelling by car or not.
After the journey over the Simplon Pass, the real fun begins - the climbing!
In the morning we start with training and climbing. In various lessons, you will acquire new knowledge and practical skills step by step. We start with the basics of crack climbing technique and work our way up until you are able to climb a route freely and cleanly in clean style.
To get started, we will go to a climbing garden with bolts on the first day, where we can practise placing mobile belay devices in a safe environment. There you have the opportunity to practise placing friends and wedges in peace and quiet - and if you want, you can even take a controlled fall into a friend or wedge with a back belay to gain confidence in your own equipment and technique.
We then drive together to our cosy accommodation. In the evening, we enjoy a meal together and plan the coming days together.
In the following days, we will deepen your knowledge step by step and put what you have learnt into practice directly on the rock. Together we will analyse the different types of cracks in and around Cadarese, discuss tactics and techniques and teach you the most important technical terms - so you get to know the „language of crack climbing“ from the ground up.
You will learn how to move correctly in crack climbing routes and how to use and try out different techniques:
-
Jam technique
-
Fingerlocks
-
Foot clamp
-
Offwidths
We'll show you how to use crack climbing gloves correctly - or simply make your own from tape. Of course, you can also try out various mobile safety devices such as friends, cams and wedges. We will explain exactly what you need to pay attention to when placing them so that you are safe and confident.
A big advantage in Cadarese: the belays are drilled, which means that you can try out the cracks in a relaxed manner and without fear, even in a toprope. Our experienced mountain guides will be happy to set up the desired toprope for you - so you can concentrate fully on technique, movement and fun.
And if you're ready, you might even dare to tackle your first clean route, which is completely secured with mobile belay devices - a real sense of achievement!
We end the evenings together in a cosy atmosphere - over a delicious meal, talking shop about friends and wedges or even on a trip to a typical Italian restaurant to enjoy the dolce vita.
