Ski touring and mountaineering on 4000 metre peaks is the best combination. It's simply fun to climb over the snow-covered glaciers at dawn, reach a proud summit and then glide back over the beautiful slopes and flat glaciers. In these 2 days, we will take you on two great ski mountaineering tours to over 4000 metres and show you what to look out for and how to behave on the glaciers and ski mountaineering tours. We meet in Saas-Fee and, thanks to the cable cars, can immerse ourselves in the high mountain world right away and start with the tour to the Allalinhorn. We then spend the night in the beautifully situated Britannia hut. We set off early the next day and head across the wide glaciers to the Strahlhorn. With these good conditions, we can ski down to the Mattmark reservoir after the Strahlhorn. A descent of around 2000 metres awaits us! From there we can take a taxi back to Saas Grund or Saas Fee.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet at 09:04, once the bus has arrived, at the bus terminal in Saas-Fee.
On the first day, the tour to the Allalinhorn is on the programme. We begin the ascent from Mittelallalin. After a long descent across the mighty glacier, we reach the Britannia Hut, where we will spend the night.
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll set off very early today, crossing the vast glacier up to the Strahlhorn at over 4,000 metres. Towards the end, a very short but varied scramble awaits us on the way to the summit. We’ll descend via the glacier, as far as Mattmark if possible!
An alternative route would be the Fluchthorn, with a 900hm climb.
We say our goodbyes at around 3.00 pm back in Saas-Fee and set off on our journey home, our rucksacks full of new impressions and experiences.
Requirements
- Mastering the ski touring technique with its basics (skins, hairpin turns).
- Safe downhill technique in open terrain and in different types of snow.
- Condition for ski tours with around 1000hm at a comfortable pace (~300hm/h).
- Condition for 1000m of descent in different types of snow.
- In addition, there are sections where we carry the skis and trudge through the snow.
- Splitboarders are welcome, provided they are experienced.
- You don't yet need any experience on alpine tours or on the glacier

- CHF 875.-
- Small group with 4 - 6 guests per mountain guide.
- Including overnight stay in a hut and half board.
- Including planning and realisation with mountain guide and his travel expenses.
- Excluding travel expenses, possible train tickets, personal consumption.
Material and equipment
- We have for you a detailed packing list with packing tips compiled.
- For this tour you need the following material from this PDF. We carry our equipment with us all the time. Pack only what is necessary.
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
