Cathedral ascent

Cathedral, Valais

Beautiful alpine high-altitude tour to one of the most important four-thousand metre peaks in the Alps. At 4545 metres, the Dom is the highest mountain that lies entirely in Switzerland. The ascent via the Domhütte and the Festijoch is very varied. Technically, it is considered relatively easy, but requires a very good level of fitness. In good conditions, the view from the Dom extends from Mont Blanc to the Bernese Alps, the Weisshorn directly opposite and the Dufourspitze in the Monte Rosa massif.

Individual ascent from Randa/Täsch to the Domhütte. It’s well worth taking the route across the Europa Bridge on the way up. Group dinner and a chance to get to know one another at the hut. Overnight stay.

We’ll set off early in the morning and climb the Dom together, savour the joy of reaching the summit, and return to the hut together. On the way, we’ll ascend the rocky slope to the Festijoch – this involves some easy scrambling. From the Festijoch, depending on the conditions, we’ll decide whether to ascend to the summit via the Festigrat – a slightly more varied and direct route – or via the standard route (north face). The descent takes us down the north face and back via the scrambling section at the Festijoch to the Domhütte.
