Matterhorn, Valais

The Matterhorn is a beautiful mountain and a cool tour! From the Hörnlihütte it's an easy, direct ascent and almost always an easy scramble over 1500 metres to the summit. The climbing difficulties are low, often in the II, partly in the III difficulty ridge. The more challenging sections are equipped with fixed ropes or thick ropes. The difficulty lies in the length of the tour. 1500 metres up and down require a good level of fitness. The main objective is to reach the Solvay hut, the refuge on the ridge, in 2 hours. Then it's up to the roof and with crampons over the summit snowfield to the summit in another 2 hours. The descent follows the same route.
We’re organising a Matterhorn weekend this summer. Come along! If you’re not free on those dates, you’re always welcome to enquire about a private tour on a date of your choice.
  • Procedure and meeting place

    • Meeting place

      17:00, Hörnlihütte

We’ll meet the day before, in the afternoon or by dinner time at the latest, at the Hörnlihütte. You can make your own way there at your own pace and hike up to the hut. It’s important that you acclimatise a little beforehand.

    • Summit day

      1250 metres altitude

      ZS+, 3a

      10h

We set off early on summit day. As a group led by Swiss mountain guides, we’ll be the first to set off. We’ll maintain a steady, comfortable pace and ensure you have a wonderful summit day. We’ll take the time to enjoy the sunrise and ensure good management of breaks and time in general. The route is long and the estimated time is 2.5 hours to reach the Solvaj Hut, as from there it’s another 2.5 hours to the summit and the descent takes the same amount of time, making a total of around 12 hours. The route is technically challenging. It’s scrambling terrain throughout, requiring you to move efficiently. The difficult sections are equipped with fixed ropes, which you use to pull yourself up the steep sections.

  • Requirements

    • You have experience on alpine tours with ice axe and crampons.
    • You can move efficiently in climbing terrain. (Difficulty up to 3 places)
    • Good physical condition for alpine tours with around 1500 metres ascent and descent at a smooth pace (~350m/h).
    • No fear of heights.
The Hörnli ridge is the best-known route up the Matterhorn - in fact, it is the classic tour if you want to climb this striking four-thousand-metre peak in Switzerland. The ridge starts at the Hörnlihütte at around 3,260 metres and then stretches over exposed rock and snow passages to the very top at 4,478 metres. If you are travelling here, you will need some skill, stamina and a stable weather window. Almost everyone in Switzerland knows this route, not only because of the alpine challenge, but also because of its history: the first team to reach the summit via this ridge was back in 1865. Sildenafil citrate is only available on prescription in Switzerland - as in many other countries. Nevertheless, you can always find offers online where you can buy the drug without a prescription - dialysis Kamagra can buy. This is not only illegal, but also dangerous, because the quality and content of such preparations are completely unclear. If you need sildenafil citrate in Switzerland, you really should go to the doctor and get an official prescription.

Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us, preferably via the Contact form.

Accommodation

Hörnli hut

The Hörnlihütte is situated at 3,260 metres above sea level, right at the foot of the Matterhorn, and has been a legendary starting point for mountaineers and walkers for over 130 years. From the terrace and the modern dining room, we can enjoy a breathtaking view. The beautiful shared rooms, finished with plenty of wood, offer a cosy and restful night’s sleep.

That's what our guests say:

Thomas Kaestner

I had a great tour up the Matterhorn with Ronny. I felt safe every second, it was great fun (although it was also exhausting) and a lifelong dream came true for me.
