Mürtschenstock crossing
Three summits, exciting climbs and impressive views! Alpine challenge at the entrance to Glarnerland.
The mighty Mürtschen massif marks the entrance to Glarnerland and is visible from afar. Its three peaks - Stock, Fulen and Ruchen - form an imposing chain and make the crossing an alpine highlight.
Over grassy slopes and the first rocky steps, we reach striking passages such as the famous Black Schnuer or the Firing rangebefore we venture into exciting climbs. The route leads us over airy ridges, steep chimneys and exposed ledges, always accompanied by fantastic views down into the valley. Highlights include climbing through the compact Finger crack on the stick, as well as the airy ridge passage to Ruchen.
Depending on the weather, conditions and personal wishes, the mountain guide will decide with you which direction to take on the crossing. Whether from west to east or in the opposite direction, both variants promise alpine enjoyment, challenging scrambling and a thrilling experience in the midst of the wild Glarus mountain landscape.
Procedure and meeting place
We meet early in the morning in Filzbach. We travel on together to Talalpsee.
We start on a marked hiking trail that leads us up the steep flanks of the Mürtschenstock. Over exposed grassy passages and the first rocky steps, we gradually delve deeper into the alpine scenery. From here, we alternate between enjoyable climbing sections and exciting rocky passages until we descend again over steep grassy flanks on the opposite side, back to the starting point at the idyllic Talalpsee lake.
