Experience an enjoyable climbing tour over the Schafbergkante above Wildhaus, a real classic in Toggenburg! The route runs over grippy limestone and offers varied climbing, mostly in the 4th degree of difficulty, perfect for approach or light mountain boots. We master the short 5th degree crux together with targeted coaching from our expert mountain guide. The day is full of experiences: Even the approach with the small railway is a highlight before we climb over the airy edge in a three-rope team. The alpine climbing, the superb rock quality and the final abseil make this day an unforgettable adventure. During the tour, we are accompanied by magnificent views of the Churfirsten and the Säntis massif, which always invite us to pause for a moment.

Procedure and meeting place
Meeting point right at the valley station of the Gamplüt cable car, shortly after the bus arrives.
We take a leisurely walk first along a forest road and then along a hiking trail in the direction of the Schafbergwand. In the forest, we leave the official hiking trail and climb towards the climbing garden, after a rocky gully we reach the start of the Schafbergkante.
We climb the Schafbergkante, great rock in a unique setting. The difficulties are in the 3rd and 4th climbing grade. Two very short sections are more difficult in isolation, the mountain guide will coach you through these sections and can defuse them with a step sling or a pull rope.
From the summit, we climb to the abseiling point in just a few minutes and abseil 50 metres down the north side to the Schofwiesen. From here we walk back to the car park on a hiking trail and enjoy the incredible panorama and perhaps make a short stop at the cosy mountain restaurant.
We finish the tour together at the Gamplütbahn valley station.
Requirements
- You are proficient at belaying on multi-pitch routes.
- You can re-climb at grade 4, this is possible without any problems in approach or mountaineering boots.
- Condition for climbing tours with a comfortable ascent and descent, 1000 metres altitude difference.
- Climbing shoes can be helpful for the crux section.

Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
