Crevasse and ski tourers in the Monte Rosa massif

Trento

Our adventure begins in the Mont Blanc region, where we immerse ourselves directly in the fascinating glacier world between France and Switzerland. From Argentière, we move from hut to hut over impressive crossings and panoramic summits to the Cabane du Trient, always accompanied by spectacular views of the surrounding ice giants with spectacular granite mountains and many couloirs. This ski traverse combines everything that makes a high-altitude ski tour: varied ascents, the occasional trudge up couloirs, long descents, charming huts and the indescribable feeling of being in the middle of a remote alpine mountain world. Technically, it requires safe walking with crampons, good skiing technique and fitness.

A tour for all those who love alpine diversity and want to experience the thrill of the big ski crossings up close and not only want to choose the easiest route, but also want to trudge up or down a couloir from time to time.

  • Procedure and meeting place

    • Meeting place

      10.00 am, Argentière railway station

We meet at Argentière railway station. After a welcome from the mountain guide, our tour starts with a leisurely cable car ride.

    • Day 1 - Aiguilles des Grands Montets & Refuge Argentière

      1000 Hm

      800 metres altitude

      ZS+

Our adventure begins in Argentière, where we meet in the morning and take the cable car up the first few metres to 2600m. From here we climb to the Aiguilles des Grands Montets (3295m) and enjoy the first impressive descent before a short ascent leads us to the Refuge d'Argentière. Depending on the conditions, we take the direct approach to the hut. A cosy evening in the hut in an impressive high mountain setting sets the mood for the days ahead. From here we enjoy the spectacular view through the large panoramic windows directly onto the famous north faces of the Vertes, Droites and Courtes!

    • Day 2 - Col du Passon & Refuge Albert Premier

      700 Hm

      700 Hm

      ZS

On the second day, we start with an impressive glacier descent over the mighty Glacier d'Argentière, which stretches out in its entire width below us. After the first turns, we put our skis back on and climb up towards Col du Passon (3028 m). The ascent is technically varied: in the lower part, the route leads over gentle glacier slopes, further up the terrain becomes steeper and the final ascent to the pass requires the use of crampons.

Once at the top, we are rewarded with a magnificent panorama: to the south, the mighty ice flanks of the surrounding peaks such as the Aiguille de Chardonnet rise up, while to the north, the view opens up over the wide Trient plateau. From here, a long and rewarding descent awaits us over the extensive slopes of the glacier, which can also include technically demanding passages depending on the snow conditions. Finally, we reach the Refuge Albert Premier (2702 m), which is perched on a rocky spur and offers us an impressive end to the day with its unique view over the Glacier du Tour.

    • Day 3 - Col Supérieur du Tour - Aiguille du Tour & Cabane du Trient

      900 metres altitude

      500 Hm

On the third day, we ascend on skis from the Refuge Albert Premier via the Glacier du Tour to the Col Supérieur du Tour (3289 m). The final ascent is tackled with crampons. From here we reach the Aiguille du Tour (3540 m) in a short time. The ascent to the summit is technically easy, but offers a magnificent panorama of the Mont Blanc massif and the Valais 4000 metres.

After the summit experience, we enjoy a marvellous descent over wide glacier slopes before a short ascent in the opposite direction leads to the Cabane du Trient (3170 m). A sunny terrace, impressive views of the Trient plateau and a cosy evening in the hut await us there. The sunset from this hut is unique.

    • Day 4 - Petite Fourche & departure to Champex-Lac

      700 Hm

      2400 metres altitude

      WS

On the fourth day, the Petite Fourche (3520 m) is another rewarding summit on the programme. The ascent over the glacier is technically easy and once again offers marvellous views of the surrounding 4000 m peaks. After the descent, we return briefly to the Cabane du Trient (3170 m) before the impressive descent over the Glacier d'Arpette awaits us. We glide downhill on wide firn slopes to Champex-Lac (1465 m), where our crossing comes to a worthy conclusion.

    • Conclusion

      approx. 15.00 Champex-Lac

We end the tour together in a cosy café in Champex-Lac before setting off on our journey home.
