Monte Rosa

This impressive ski traverse takes us right into the heart of the Monte Rosa massif, a world of glaciers and mighty four-thousand-metre peaks. From the slopes above Alagna to Zermatt, we go from hut to hut and experience a tour full of variety, with great descents, impressive ascents and atmospheric hut evenings in high alpine surroundings. The route offers countless possibilities: depending on the conditions and the wishes of the group, we climb panoramic peaks such as the Punta Giordani or the Signalkuppe and enjoy wide glacier descents with views over the Po Valley and the Valais Alps. Despite its high alpine surroundings, the tour is technically feasible, provided you are in good physical condition and can ski safely.

A tour for all those who love ski mountaineering: varied, with great views and characterised by the perfect balance between sporting challenge, alpine enjoyment and sociable hut life.

From there, our tour begins with a pleasant and enjoyable ascent to Punta Giordani, the first 4000 metre peak of our tour at 4046 metres! After a hearty refreshment in the breathtaking mountain landscape, we enjoy the first descent in perfect sulz towards Rifugio Mantova, with views of the Po Valley, Lake Maggiore and the Grand Paradiso. After a short ascent, we reach the Rifugio Mantova. We spend the evening together in the hut and review the day.

We also visit the highest mountain hut in Europe. The Margherita Hut is named after the then Queen of Italy - Regina Margherita. We will tell you a bit about the history and organise the ascent to 4554m in a comfortable way and adapted to all participants. The long glacier descent down to the Monte Rosa hut is one of the absolute highlights of this tour. Across the labyrinth of impressive crevasses, we hurtle down a whole 2000 metres in great skiing terrain with magnificent views of the Lyskam, Matterhorn and Dufourspitze.

At the top, a panorama opens up that is hard to beat: the impressive Valais mountains with the Weisshorn, Dom and, of course, the Matterhorn seem close enough to touch. After this summit experience, we glide down the wide slopes into the valley and enjoy the long descent. The route finally takes us back to Zermatt, a great finish full of emotions and unforgettable impressions.

Accommodation

  • Hotel Monterosa Alagna

The Hotel Monterosa in Alagna Valsesia is a traditional house dating back to 1865 that combines historical charm with cosy comfort. It is located in the centre of the village, just a few steps from the ski lifts. Guests appreciate the warm atmosphere, the lounge bar and the regional cuisine. After active days in the mountains, the small sauna offers relaxation. Surrounded by the Monte Rosa massif, the hotel is an ideal starting point for winter sports, hikes and discovery tours to the original Walser villages.

  • Rifugio Città di Mantova

This accommodation is located above the Punta Indren ski area and is easily accessible. It serves as our starting point to reach the area of the highest hut in Europe. We deliberately choose this accommodation as it is cosier and more spacious than the upper one.
