The Wetterhorn is one of the most impressive ski mountains in the Bernese Oberland. Towering directly above Grindelwald, it offers a high alpine ski tour with an impressive line and magnificent views. This day tour is a sporting endeavour: we start early in the valley and climb steadily over wide glacier surfaces towards the summit. The ascent is long and requires a good level of fitness, but is rewarded with an impressive high mountain landscape and increasing views. In the upper section, we leave our skis behind and reach the summit via a steep firn flank. Once at the top, a spectacular panorama opens up over the Bernese Alps - a moment that more than makes up for the effort. The descent leads us along the ascent route back down to the valley and, in good conditions, offers great turns in high alpine terrain.

Depending on the crevasse situation, we cross the glacier in a south-westerly direction to the Wellhornsattel. With as little altitude loss as possible, we climb towards the Wetterhorn flank at 3540 metres. Here we make a ski depot. We climb the last 100 metres to the summit via the steep firn flank. A marvellous panorama awaits us.
