Firngrat to the Weissmies

The Weissmies is a beautiful 4,000 metre peak high above the Saas Valley. The crossing is a great high-altitude tour with everything that goes with it: easy rocky ridge, imposing glacier and a majestic summit. The small Furgen cable car makes the ascent easier and the Saas cable cars the descent. On the first day we climb up to the Almagellerhütte, enjoy lunch and in the afternoon we can climb a little in mountain boots in the beautiful granite. Depending on the conditions, we decide as a group whether to tackle the south ridge with one of the most beautiful sunrises or the somewhat more challenging red ridge. We experience great climbing in the II and III degrees of difficulty and enjoy an impressive firn ridge on the Weissmies. The descent leads over the imposing glacier down to Hohsaas, where we can toast to our shared experience and then travel comfortably down to the valley by cable car.

Today the crossing is on the programme. We start in the dark to experience the magnificent sunrise on the Zwischenbergenpass. From here, the route continues somewhat pathless until we reach the start of the south ridge of the Weissmies. We reach the beautiful and easy block ridge, the actual south ridge of the Weissmies. On the pre-summit, we switch to crampons and climb over the firn ridge to the main summit. Here we enjoy the marvellous view of the many 4,000 metre peaks of the Valais. The descent is via the impressive glacier to the Hohsaas cable car, where we can toast the tour and then take the cable car back down to the valley in comfort. Finish: approx. 15.00 in Saas Grund.
