The Zervreilahorn is often referred to as the "Matterhorn of Vals" - and anyone who stands in front of it immediately understands why: striking, proud and visible from afar, it towers into the sky above the turquoise-coloured reservoir. The north-east ridge is the most elegant line on this beautifully shaped peak and offers an enjoyable multi-pitch tour on solid, structured rock - a real insider tip for anyone looking for alpine climbing away from the crowds.

From the Chäppeli car park, we climb up to the start in around three hours - if the opportunity arises, we shorten the route by (e-)mountain bike, saving almost an hour of energy for the essentials: the climbing. The rock surprises with fantastic friction, good holds and a varied route. In nine pitches, we move elegantly and with a steady flow towards the northern summit - never extremely difficult, but exciting, airy and rewarding throughout.

Once at the top, we are rewarded with a magnificent 360° panorama: the view sweeps over the Valsertal valley, the deep blue reservoir and the peaks all around - a perfect place for a short break, to take a deep breath and marvel. The descent is via the Nanouk route, abseiling back to the foot of the wall, then on foot and possibly by bike back to the starting point.

This tour is a small alpine adventure with a great enjoyment factor that should not be underestimated: varied climbing, atmospheric scenery and a beautifully shaped summit that can be climbed with style and pleasure. Ideal for anyone longing for a long day full of exercise, nature and real ridge moments.
