Do you want to finally venture beyond the climbing wall and tackle long routes – not ending up back on the ground after just one pitch, but completing pitch after pitch? Then this three-day course in the beautiful Toggenburg region of eastern Switzerland is just the thing for you! Around Unterwasser, you’ll find countless rewarding climbing areas such as the Stoos, the Mittagswand and the Schattenwand – all ideal places to get started with multi-pitch climbing. The impressive backdrop of the Säntis and the Churfirsten provides a unique mountain atmosphere and ensures unforgettable days of climbing. We’ve deliberately set aside three days to equip you with sound knowledge and confidence on the rock: on the first day, the focus is on training. You’ll learn the basic techniques of multi-pitch climbing or brush up on your skills – with a focus on topics such as planning, belay station setup, rope handling, as well as rescue and first aid. Over the following two days, we’ll put what you’ve learnt into practice straight away: we’ll climb a variety of multi-pitch routes on solid limestone, practise efficient procedures and refine your technique. This helps you consolidate your skills and, if you wish, you can even lead a pitch yourself to gain confidence in the equipment and your movements. On the second evening, our mountain guide will deliver an engaging theory session on meteorology, rescue and first aid – knowledge you can put into practice the very next day.
These three days offer you the perfect mix of training, application and experience - with plenty of climbing time, valuable input and a great community in the midst of the impressive rocky landscape of Eastern Switzerland.
Procedure and course content
We meet at the railway station in Unterwasser / Chäserrugg Bahn. Please bring your equipment and materials for the first day of the course according to the packing list.
We get to know each other and clarify your expectations. Then we start the three days of the course together.
The first day is already dedicated to training and we will learn a lot of new things. We deliberately take the time to repeat the topics several times to build confidence.

Requirements
- You are proficient in belaying and lead climbing.
- The correct handling of the threading on the redirector is no problem for you.
- You can climb up to the 4th grade.
- Condition for climbing tours with a comfortable ascent and descent.

- Small group with 4 - 6 guests per mountain guide.
- Including professional planning and realisation with a mountain guide and his travel expenses.

Material and equipment
- For this tour you need the material from this PDF. We carry our equipment with us the whole time. Only pack the essentials.
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.

Accommodation
Alderen Lodge, Wildhaus
The Alderen Lodge is a 200-year-old farmhouse that was extensively and stylishly renovated in 2026. The house is situated on slightly higher ground, surrounded by nature, with a magnificent view over the valley. In summer, after a day’s climbing, you can enjoy the peace and quiet or socialise on the terrace. In winter, the interiors, with their abundance of wood, create a warm and cosy atmosphere when we return from a long ski tour. Our hosts take care of the culinary delights, cooking for us with passion and dedication. The sauna and hot tub are also a particular highlight, perfectly rounding off this relaxing experience.
If you’re travelling by car, you can park it free of charge on the grounds next to the main road.
