Cleanclimbing | crack climbing coaching Göscheneralp with mountain guide
Crack climbing, placing mobile anchors and solid trad craftsmanship – catapult yourself to the next level in clean climbing!
Why does clean climbing seem so natural and effortless for experienced trad climbers? The answer is simple: they know their mobile anchors inside out, understand rock structures intuitively and place their equipment with precision and a trained eye. This is exactly where our coaching comes in.
In this course, you will deepen your existing knowledge of clean climbing and hone the crucial details that make the difference between “works somehow” and “feels solid”. Together, we will analyse your placements, optimise your decision-making processes on the route and expand your repertoire of belaying techniques – from perfect wedge anchors and clean cams to clever combination and opposition techniques.
You will learn how to read rock features more quickly, build secure standing positions and work in a stress-free and structured manner, even in complex terrain. We will also cover advanced topics such as extension tactics, half-rope techniques and equipment management on the wall.
Göscheneralp offers the ideal environment for this: a wild, alpine granite playground with countless opportunities to try out mobile safety equipment in a wide variety of forms. Many routes can be analysed excellently in top rope before you conquer them independently and safely using traditional methods. The terrain is varied, clearly structured and invites you to work on technique, precision and mental strength.
This gives you the perfect opportunity to take your clean climbing skills to the next level, build up your routine and consolidate your abilities in the long term – for greater safety, more flow and more freedom on future climbing routes.
Procedure and meeting place
We meet at the bus stop Göscheneralp, Dammagletscher
In the morning, we will dive straight into climbing and in-depth training. In lessons that build on each other, we expand and refine your existing knowledge – from clean analysis of a line to thoughtful choice of equipment to demanding techniques for efficient and solid placements. Step by step, you develop more precision, safety and confidence until you can climb a route freely, controlled and completely in free style.
To start with, we deliberately spend the first day in a climbing garden with bolts so that we can focus on technique and decision-making processes in a protected environment. There you will have the opportunity to practise complex placements, optimise subtleties such as alignment, load direction and extension – and those who want to expand their comfort zone can, under professional supervision, fall into their own placement (with backup) in a controlled manner to build real confidence in the equipment and method.
Afterwards, we drive together to our cosy accommodation, the Dammagletscher mountain inn. We round off the day with dinner together, discuss individual issues and plan the upcoming activities so that you get the most out of the next few days.
Over the following days, we will deepen your knowledge step by step and put what you have learned into practice directly on the rock. Together, we will analyse different crack formations in Göscheneralp, discuss tactics and techniques, and review the most important technical terms. You will practise moving efficiently and safely on crack climbing routes and applying various crack climbing techniques in a targeted manner.
An important part of the course is belay construction: you will learn how to build safe and efficient belays, how to optimally design deflections and how to use the half-rope technique. On the last day, we will apply what we have learned directly in a short multi-pitch climb, so that you can test your skills under real conditions – a real highlight of the course!
After these three intensive days, you will have reached a whole new level of technical and tactical expertise: your understanding of crack formations, placements, belay construction and the targeted use of mobile anchors will have grown significantly. You will climb more safely, efficiently and confidently – making clean climbing even more enjoyable. You can immediately apply the skills and tips you have learned to your own everyday climbing, so that every clean route you tackle in future will be a real pleasure.
We complete the course together.
