Climbing Tour | Crossing the Rosenlouwistock and Tannenspitze with a mountain guide
A varied alpine traverse: wonderful scrambling, exposed sections and two or three abseil points make this day trip a special adventure.

We set off early from Alp Reichenbach towards the Rosenlouwistock. The approach takes us into the impressive mountain landscape surrounding the Rosenlauital valley. As we gain altitude, the terrain becomes more alpine until we reach the rock face and the actual traverse begins. We ascend the Rosenlouwistock via varied scrambling and rocky sections. The route is graded between difficulty levels 3 and 4. You’ll master the more challenging sections with the support and guidance of our mountain guide. After a break at the summit, enjoying impressive views over the Rosenlau Valley and the surrounding Bernese Alps, we continue the traverse towards the Tannenspitz. Via exposed rocky ridges and alpine terrain, we finally reach the abseil points. In two to three abseil pitches, we quickly lose altitude and reach the descent route, which leads us back down into the valley.
A varied day trip for anyone who enjoys scrambling, loves exposed terrain and fancies a mountain hike with a difference, away from the usual walking trails.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet early in the morning at Meiringen railway station and travel together from there to the Rosenlaui Valley.
From the car park at Alp Reichenbach, we set off for the start of the scramble. The approach takes us into the impressive mountain landscape surrounding the Rosenlauital valley. As we gain altitude, the terrain becomes more alpine until we reach the rock face and the actual traverse begins. Via varied scrambling sections rated III and IV, we ascend to the Rosenlauistock. The climb is very varied and consists of slabs, ledges, cracks, dihedrals and traverses. Our mountain guide will be on hand to offer tips and coaching, and to assist you at the key sections. From the summit of the Rosenlauistock, the route continues in a beautiful line to the Tannenspitze. Once we reach the summit, we’ll take time for a well-deserved break and enjoy the impressive view over the Rosenlaui Valley and the surrounding Bernese Alps. From the Tannenspitze, we’ll abseil three times, 20 metres each, to quickly reach the descent route back down into the valley.
We’ll finish the tour together at Meiringen station.
Requirements
- Walking safely in alpine and off-trail terrain.
- Sure-footedness and a head for heights.
- Climbing experience at Grade III, as well as two to three pitches at Grade IV as a second climber.
- You’ll need to be in good physical shape for a walk lasting around 8 hours.
- The route can easily be tackled in approach shoes; for certain sections, we recommend climbing shoes.

- Rope team with 2 guests per mountain guide.
- Including planning and realisation with mountain guide and his travel expenses.
- Excluding travel expenses, possible train tickets, personal consumption.
- We would ask you to contribute towards the mountain guide’s travel expenses for the journey to and from Meiringen railway station.
Material and equipment
- For this tour you need the material from this PDF. We carry our equipment with us the whole time. Only pack the essentials.
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
