The Sustenhorn is a cool mountain and the traverse from the lonely Chelenalp valley makes the tour even better. The Sustenhorn lies on the border of Uri and Bern. The mountain has an impressively craggy glacier and the summit offers a magnificent view all the way to the Matterhorn. We start the tour in the Göscheneralp and enjoy the seclusion of the Chelenalp valley together on the first day. There we spend the night in the small, beautifully situated Chelenalp Hut. On the second day we start early enough to enjoy the sunrise on the ascent. Together we cross the Sustenhorn via Sustenlimi and ascend via Tierberglihütte to the Susten Pass. At the Tierberglihütte we enjoy coffee and cake, of course.

Conclusion approx. 15.00 in MeiringenWe make a leisurely ascent to the Chelenalp hut. We first pass the Göscheneralpsee, where a village once “sank” into the reservoir.
We set off in the light of our headlamps and enjoy the dawn and the peace and quiet. We climb over the moraine to the edge of the glacier where we mount our crampons. A short and easy scramble takes us to the Sustenlimi. From here you could also take a shortcut. However, we continue over the glacier and reach the summit, which offers great views. The descent leads to the Tierbergli hut, where we enjoy coffee and cake before descending to the valley, from where we are picked up by taxi. We finish around 15.00 at the railway station in Meiringen.
Requirements
- This tour requires little previous knowledge and can be enjoyed with a moderate basic level of fitness.
- First experiences with crampons and ice axe.
- Condition for a day tour with 1200m ascent and 1500m descent at a leisurely pace.
Price and services
- CHF 1900.-
- Group of 4 - 6 people per mountain guide.
- Two mountain guides are required for a group of more than 6 guests.
- CHF 2500.- with two mountain guides up to a maximum group size of 12 guests. One-off special price for our cooperation
- Including planning and realisation with mountain guide and his travel expenses.
- Exclusive overnight stay in the SAC hut with half board. For this there is an additional CHF 100 per person per night.
- Excluding travel expenses, possible train tickets, personal consumption.

- For this tour you need the following material from this PDF. We carry our equipment with us all the time. Pack only what is necessary.
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.

A rustic and classic SAC hut in a classic stone building, yet warm and welcoming and with a magnificent sunset on the terrace and sunrise after the first steps in the morning.
