The Almagellerhütte (2,894 m, SAC Niesen section) is located on the south side of the Weissmies and is a popular starting point for high-alpine tours in the Saas Valley.
11:10 am, Saas Almagell, village square
Two four-thousand-metre peaks, the best gneiss and imposing glaciers
Experience two of the most beautifully shaped four-thousand-metre peaks in Valais in a perfect combination. During the Weissmies (4017m) with its varied traverse and the impressive firn ridge, offers the best of both worlds. Lagginhorn (4010m) Honest, enjoyable ridge climbing on rock.
We meet at the bus stop Saas-Almagell, village square. From here we take the small Furgen cable car up to the hut.
The small Furgen cable car makes the ascent easier. After lunch at the hut, we use the afternoon for “warm-up climbing” and a refresher on how to use the rope in the gneiss with a good grip, right next to the hut.
Depending on the conditions, we choose the classic south ridge (fantastic sunrise!) or the somewhat more challenging red ridge. We can expect some great climbs in grades II and III. The descent over the Trift Glacier to Hohsaas is a tremendous ice spectacle. Overnight stay in Hohsaas.
From Hohsaas, we take a closer look at the “normal route”, which leads almost exclusively over rocky ribs and easy climbs to the summit. A worthy finale before we take the cable car back down to the valley.
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
