Advanced multi-pitch course | refresher and application tour with mountain guide
Safety, routine and fun in the vertical. You will consolidate your knowledge and become an independent multi-pitch climber!
Have you already gained some experience in multi-pitch climbing, but don't feel quite ready to climb independently yet? Then this advanced course is just the thing for you! In beautiful Eastern Switzerland - on the striking rock face of the Brüggler and the panoramic Mattstock - we will consolidate your knowledge, your technique and your confidence in your own abilities.
On the first day we climb on the Brüggler, one of the most famous multi-pitch spots in Glarus with the best limestone rock and routes of all levels of difficulty. We repeat the entire process of a multi-pitch tour, revisit the most important basics and improve your skills. We focus on topics such as belaying, rope handling, communication and efficient procedures. Planning, weather assessment, approach and time management are also part of the programme - everything you need to be safe and confident on the route. In the evening, we round off the day in charming Amden, enjoy a delicious dinner and plan our application tour for the next day together. The second day takes us to the Mattstock - an ideal area to put what we have learnt into practice. Together we climb a selected multi-pitch route, apply what we have learnt and discuss important decisions about route finding, tactics and efficiency on the way.
You will gain routine, safety and confidence - and after these two days you will be ready to plan and enjoy your own multi-pitch climbs independently. Two days of learning, climbing and enjoyment in the most beautiful mountain landscape in Eastern Switzerland - the perfect next step on your way to independent multi-pitch climbing!

We travel together by car to Amden, where our cosy accommodation is located. We enjoy dinner together in a restaurant. We also devote ourselves to theory and route planning for the next day. Together, we will go step by step through the planning process for a multi-pitch route, applying the tried-and-tested 3×3 model. We discuss which factors from the areas of terrain, weather and people are particularly important and how they influence our decisions. We then learn how to use climbing guides and topos to select a suitable route and plan it realistically - from the length of the tour to the approach and descent.
Another focus is on meteorology (meteo): Which tools and apps help us to assess the conditions, and what do we need to pay particular attention to in terms of wind, temperature and thunderstorm tendency? Finally, we plan the application tour for the next day together. Depending on the motivation and ability of the participants, this can also be a little longer or more challenging - entirely in line with individual progress and the experience gained.
On the second day we undertake the planned tour on the Mattstock - we put theory into practice! Together we set off early for the planned practical tour. The entire process - from the approach and route finding to the descent - is in the hands of the participants. The aim is for you to be able to carry out the procedures of a multi-pitch tour independently and safely.
During the tour, you will take responsibility for planning, time management, rope handling and communication within the rope team. Our mountain guides will accompany you attentively, give you valuable tips and are always on hand to help with any questions or uncertainties. In this way, you can gradually approach complete independence in multi-pitch climbing - in a safe environment and with professional guidance.
At the end of the day, we reflect together on our experiences: What worked well, where is there still room for improvement and how can you apply what you have learnt to your own routes in the future? Not only will you gain routine, but also the confidence to plan and climb multi-pitch routes independently in the future.
After refreshments in the hut, we set off on the descent together and review our experiences.
We complete the course together.
