Piz Badile, Graubünden

The north face of Piz Badile is an alpine classic, and rightly so: this elegant line stretches 1,000 metres across compact, grippy granite to the beautifully shaped summit. Harmonious, exposed, nestled in breathtaking scenery. Anyone who climbs here will immediately understand why this tour is at the top of many people's wish lists. The climbing is enjoyable and fluid throughout. Fine slabs, grippy cracks and perfectly structured rock make every pitch a real experience. Technically, the route remains moderate (up to 5a), but requires solid basic fitness, alpine instinct and a good dose of endurance. This tour is more than just impressive climbing: it is an overall experience in the midst of magnificent scenery. A day that lingers in the memory and granite that is addictive.

  • Procedure and meeting place

    • Day 1 - Meeting point

      11.00 am, Bondo

We’ll meet in the village of Bondo. You can get there by public transport or in your own car; there’s parking available at the Sasc Furä Hut car park.

    • Day 1 - Ascent to the hut

      1400 metres altitude

      300 Hm

We start from Bondo with the hut ascent through the green Val Bondasca to the Sasc Furä hut and enjoy the Val Bregaglia with its uniqueness and beautiful views. During the ascent, we have plenty of time to get to know each other, share our expectations and get in the mood for tomorrow.

In the evening, we plan tomorrow's tour together and enjoy a delicious dinner in the hut.

    • Day 2 - Badile north ridge

      1300 metres altitude

      800 metres altitude

      5a

      8-10h

On the day of the climb, we set off early – by the light of our headlamps, we leave the last trees behind us and climb over slabs and boulders to the start of the route. Then the adventure begins: pitch by pitch, we follow the clear line of the north ridge – always with breathtaking views down into the valley and out to the surrounding mountain peaks. Once at the top, we take a break to recharge our batteries and enjoy the view. The descent follows the normal route. This requires concentration and sure-footedness and should not be underestimated, but our mountain guides will lead you safely to the Rifugio Gianetti, where we will spend the second night.

As we raise a glass to celebrate a successful day’s hiking, we can take a look at the surrounding rock faces and plan together which (shorter) hike we might do on the third day. Dinner, featuring the classic primi and secondi as is customary in Italy, gives us the energy we need for the next day.

    • Day 3 - Climbing around the Rifugio Gianetti and descent into the valley

      200 metres of elevation gain

      1400 metres altitude

      5.00 pm, Bondo

On the third day, there are various climbing options available around the hut. We can plan together the evening before which route we want to climb in the morning. After climbing, we refuel at the hut and then begin the descent. The hiking trail leads from the alpine landscape through different vegetation zones back down into the valley.

From Bagni del Masino, a taxi takes us back to Bondo.

Accommodation

  • Capanna Sasc Furä

The Sasc Furä Hut is impressively situated at the foot of Piz Badile and is the perfect base for alpine classics such as the Badile North Ridge. Nestled in the wild granite landscape of the Bergell, it offers a unique combination of proximity to the big walls, a warm hut atmosphere and spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. The cosy hut allows for a relaxed evening before the tour: a fine dinner, a quick look at the route and the impressive north ridge right on the doorstep. With its location in the middle of the granite paradise of the Bergell, the Sasc Furä Hut is the ideal starting point for unforgettable climbing experiences and the perfect base for our ascent of the Badile North Ridge.

  • Gianetti Refuge

The Rifugio Gianetti is located on the Italian side of the Val Bregaglia and is the ideal place to arrive after climbing the Badile North Ridge, take a breather and reflect on the day. After descending from the North Ridge, we reach the Gianetti, enjoy the great view and can end the evening with good food, a warm drink and relaxed conversation. The cosy atmosphere, the view of the steep walls and the feeling of having completed a great tour make a stay at the hut a special experience. The Rifugio Gianetti is therefore not only a practical base after crossing the Badile, but also a wonderful place to enjoy the impressions of the tour in peace before continuing the next day.
