The Schijenzahn is a small, striking climbing peak set amidst the impressive rocky landscape of the Rätikon. Accompanied by our mountain guide, you’ll ascend to the foot of the peak and then tackle the south-east face. Over three varied pitches graded 5a, 4c and 5a, we’ll climb upwards through the most beautiful Rätikon limestone. The climbing is moderately technical and offers a series of beautiful, exposed sections. Along the way, you’ll be able to experience the impressive rocky landscape from a very special perspective. Once you reach the small summit cross at the top, a magnificent view of the surrounding peaks and the striking faces of the Schijenfluh awaits. The descent is via abseil points back down to the base of the wall and to our rucksacks, before we head back down into the valley and round off this varied day’s climbing at one of the local inns.
The Schijenzahn is a varied alpine climbing route for anyone who enjoys multi-pitch climbing and would like to discover a small, special summit in the Rätikon.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet in St. Antönien, at the last car park at the very back of the valley towards Partnun. If you’re travelling by public transport, the mountain guide can also pick you up at a bus stop in St. Antönien. It might also be possible to share a lift with the second guest from Küblis.
From Partnun, we first follow the path to the picturesque Lake Partnun. There, we leave the official hiking trails and continue our ascent across pathless, alpine terrain. The closer we get to the imposing Schijenwand, the more striking the scenery becomes: the vertical, smooth rock face dominates the landscape, whilst directly in front of it our climbing destination rises out of a sea of huge boulders – the striking Schijenzahn.
We finish the tour back at the car park.
Requirements
- Sure-footed walking in exposed terrain
- Climbing in climbing shoes on routes graded 4–5
- Fitness level required for 800 hm of ascent and descent at a leisurely pace

- Rope team with 2 guests per mountain guide.
- Including planning and realisation with mountain guide and his travel expenses.

Material and equipment
- For this tour you need the material from this PDF. We carry our equipment with us the whole time. Only pack the essentials.
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
