The tour to Wildstrubel offers an impressive two-day ski touring experience between Valais and the Bernese Oberland. From Leukerbad, we quickly immerse ourselves in a vast, high-alpine winter landscape. Gentle glacier surfaces, striking rocks and open slopes characterise the terrain – ideal for enjoyable ascents and atmospheric descents. The region around the Lämmeren Hut is a classic ski touring area and offers perfect conditions for both ambitious and leisure-oriented tourers.
After setting off together from Leukerbad, we climb up to the Lämmeren Hut, where we fortify ourselves for the upcoming ascent and immerse ourselves in the peaceful mountain world. We then climb the Steghorn, a panoramic pre-summit with a beautiful, direct descent back to the hut. Over dinner, we enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and prepare together for the big day of touring.
The second day starts early, directly over the wide glacier up to the Wildstrubel. The crossing opens up an impressive panorama from the Valais four-thousand-metre peaks to the Bernese high mountains. The long, north-facing descent to Engstligenalp is the crowning finale and highlight of the tour: an ingenious mix of open slopes, glacier passages and long-lasting skiing fun in the best powder! The tour ends on the cosy Engstligenalp, where we will round off the day together.
Procedure and meeting place
We'll meet at the bus terminal.
We start the day comfortably with a cable car ride on the Gemmibahn. From the mountain station, we first descend gently and then make our way leisurely across the wide Lämmerenboden towards the Daubenhorn. A short, well-groomed steep slope takes us under the striking rocky ledges before we join the ascent route from the Lämmerenhütte via a beautiful traverse. The last few metres lead over open slopes to the panoramic summit. The descent offers flowing, great turns in powder snow and leads directly towards the Lämmerenhütte - ideal for familiarising yourself, checking the conditions and preparing perfectly for tomorrow's tour day.
We start early on the second day: we cross the Wildstrubel Glacier to reach the Wildstrubel, pass the Mittelgipfel and arrive in the Bernese Oberland via the pass with the wonderful name of Frühstücksplatz (breakfast spot). There, a spectacular descent to Engstligenalp awaits us – long, open slopes and wide expanses ensure an unforgettable skiing experience. Finally, we take a relaxing train ride down to the valley, where we round off the tour with a coffee in Adelboden and reflect on the impressions of two intense days.
We finish the tour together in the Engstligenalp and back in the valley.
Requirements
- Safe ski touring technique including hairpin bends, use of crampons
- Safe downhill technique in open terrain and in different types of snow. There are two short sections of the descent that are somewhat steeper, but are only traversed or skidded. Here, the mountain guide will lead you through with good coaching and guidance.
- Fitness level required for ski tours with approx. 1000 metres of elevation gain at a normal pace (~300-350 metres/hour).

Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.

Lämmerenhütte
The Lämmeren Hut is located on a sunny terrace above the wide Lämmerenboden plateau and is an ideal base for ski tours in the Wildstrubel area. The modern, cosy hut impresses with its warm atmosphere, good cuisine and impressive views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers. Thanks to its location, it is easily accessible and provides direct access to varied touring terrain – perfect for an enjoyable weekend in the high mountains.
