To the dates and registration
The Tour du Ciel is one of the most impressive ski crossings in the Swiss Alps. Starting in Zermatt, it leads northwards from hut to hut between the really big four-thousand-metre peaks and over their glaciers. Again and again we cross steep cols, firn ridges or descend through small couloirs. A challenging ski tour in impressive surroundings! We tackle this project together and experience the high mountain world to the full!
Meeting point: 9.15 Zermatt train station
Conclusion: approx. 15.00 in St. Niklaus
We start comfortably with the Breithorn from Zermatt and can acclimatise, get to know each other and get to know each other. We take the cable car from Zermatt to the Klein Matterhorn and do the Breithorn. Afterwards we enjoy a long descent. A final short ascent takes us to the Schönbielhütte.
A longer ascent takes us over the Hohwäng Glacier to Col Durand. Here we enjoy a magnificent view of the Matterhorn and the Monte Rosa massif until we slide or descend more steeply on the other side. Depending on the conditions, we may need a fixed rope here. We continue with a spectacular descent over the rugged Glacier Durand and a short ascent to the Cabane du Mountet. A first full day of touring and full of impressive first impressions.
Today we head via Blanc de Moming to Cabanne d'Arpitettaz. An impressive day on which we strap on our skis over the "Arrete du Blanc" snow ridge and then enjoy a very long descent over the glacier. Here we have the option of extending the descent and climbing back up to the hut from further down.
We cross a small pass to the Cabanne du Tracuit and from there continue up to the Bishorn. From the Bishorn we enjoy the unique view of the Weisshorn and the surrounding mountains. A racy descent takes us back to the Cab. du Tracuit.
Another highlight! The day starts with a descent over the Turtmann Glacier past the Turtmann Hut. From here we cross two small passes where we put on our skis both times to get up. Small couloirs or gullies lead down the other side. Finally, we reach the Wasuhorn, from where we tackle a long descent to Jungu. A really varied day. In Jungu we take the small cable car to get back to the main valley.
Back in the valley, we toast to a unique ski crossing. We will remember this experience for a long time to come.
