“Eulengrat” climbing route in the Solothurn Jura
The Eulengrat is a true classic in the Solothurn Jura. Spanning around ten pitches, this varied climb takes you over solid, textured limestone, featuring lovely ascents, exposed sections and ever-changing views across the Mittelland to the Bernese Alps.

The Eulengrat combines everything that makes for a truly wonderful climbing route: a short approach, varied multi-pitch climbing, good rock and scenery that offers plenty of special moments along the way.
After the approach, we reach the start of the Eulengrat and follow the striking rock ridge pitch by pitch as we ascend. The limestone offers good grip and texture, and the route features numerous upswings and various options for climbing the individual sections. The difficulty is mainly in the lower fifth grade, with a short passage up to 5b. As we climb higher, the view changes too: the forest lies increasingly below us and the Mittelland opens up. On a clear day, the view stretches as far as the great peaks of the Bernese Alps – the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau, along with other four-thousand-metre peaks, stand out on the horizon.
After about ten pitches, we reach the upper part of the ridge and can enjoy the view across the Mittelland from the lovely terrace. We then walk back down to the starting point.
Procedure and meeting place
We will agree on the meeting point and exact travel arrangements depending on how participants are travelling.
After a short approach through the woods, we reach the start of the Eulengrat. From there, we climb around ten varied pitches up the striking rocky ridge. After the climb, we head back down to the starting point via the footpath. We estimate the approach will take around 1 hour 10 minutes, and the descent around 1 hour 40 minutes.
We’ll finish the tour together back at the station or bus stop and say goodbye to one another.

- For this tour you need the material from this PDF. We carry our equipment with us the whole time. Only pack the essentials.
Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.
