Immerse yourself fully in the winter wonderland and enjoy it to the full – that’s exactly what you can do during the ski touring days around the Churfirsten and the Säntis in Toggenburg. The cosy Alderen Lodge, above Alt St. Johann, lies right at the foot of the Churfirsten, surrounded by nature. Thanks to its secluded location and the surrounding area, including the Alp Sellamatt and the Chäserugg, we can set off right from the doorstep, gain altitude using various cable cars and often ski straight back to our accommodation. The gentle slopes are the perfect starting point for easy ascents and enjoyable descents. When conditions are good, we can also undertake the Säntis circular tour.
It’s not just during the day that you can look forward to a varied and relaxing programme – in the evening, you can wind down and round off the day in the lodge’s sauna and hot tub.
Procedure and meeting place
We’ll meet in Alt St. Johann, at the Selamatt Bahn valley station.
Once we’ve got to know each other, we’ll get ready for our first ski tour. We’ll leave our luggage in our own cars. Taking the participants’ abilities into account, we’ll choose a manageable ascent and look for the best snow for the descent.
We’ll then spend the evening at the charming Alderen Lodge, where our hosts will cook for us. Anyone who fancies it can round off the day in the sauna or with a cosy get-together in the hot tub.After breakfast, we’ll set off on some lovely ski tours, tailored to the conditions. We’ll focus on the best conditions and enjoy leisurely ascents and fantastic descents. We’ll be given a packed lunch at the accommodation to keep us going. We’ll spend the evening at the Alderen Lodge.
Fully recharged by the sunshine and fresh energy from the snow-covered mountains, we’ll round off our ski touring trip together on Sunday afternoon. The journey home can be made individually or by carpooling.
Requirements
- Mastering the ski touring technique with its basics (skins, hairpin turns).
- Your first experience of deep-snow skiing in off-piste terrain. We’ll be skiing on gentle slopes, with only a few sections being slightly steeper. The mountain guide will be happy to assist you and offer helpful tips where necessary.
- Stamina for ski tours of around 800-1000 metres at a leisurely pace (~300m/h).
- Condition for 1000m of descent in different types of snow.
- Splitboarders are welcome.

Bergschaft tours and courses are conducted in German as standard. However, our mountain guides speak good English, as do many of the participants. If you speak English, you are of course very welcome. Depending on the tour, it may be worth asking us in advance whether the guide and the group are comfortable speaking English.

Accommodation
Alderen Lodge, Wildhaus
The Alderen Lodge is a 200-year-old farmhouse that was extensively and stylishly renovated in 2026. The house is situated on slightly higher ground, surrounded by nature, with a magnificent view over the valley. In summer, after a day’s climbing, you can enjoy the peace and quiet or socialise on the terrace. In winter, the interiors, with their abundance of wood, create a warm and cosy atmosphere when we return from a long ski tour. Our hosts take care of the culinary delights, cooking for us with passion and dedication. The sauna and hot tub are also a particular highlight, perfectly rounding off this relaxing experience.
If you’re travelling by car, you can park it free of charge on the grounds next to the main road.
