Selun south pillar
Sharp limestone, wonderful views of Lake Walen and great and lonely climbing in 4th grade!
The mighty south faces of the Churfirsten mountains impress from afar. They drop steeply down to Lake Walen and create a spectacular, airy ambience. Together we climb the south pillar of the Selun, a rewarding and varied climbing tour in the fourth degree of difficulty. The grippy limestone offers perfect conditions for enjoyable climbing. The final ascent over the ridge opens up a magnificent panorama - from deep blue Lake Walen to the Glarus peaks in the distance. We make the approach easier with the characterful Selun cable car before abseiling down the Rappenloch and reaching the start. The descent is leisurely along the hiking trail back down into the valley.
A tour with a superb panorama, alpine character and a guaranteed high. A real highlight in Toggenburg!
Procedure and meeting place
We meet in the morning in Starkenbach at the nostalgic Selunbahn railway. Together we will shorten the ascent.
From the mountain station, we climb leisurely across alpine meadows and later along a path to the Rappenloch, where we reach the start of the route via a short abseil point. This is where the actual climbing begins: over several enjoyable pitches, we climb in the fourth degree of difficulty through the grippy limestone of the south pillar. The route is varied, never overtaxing and always offers impressive views of Lake Walen. Once at the top, we enjoy the summit view over the whole of Toggenburg, the Glarus Alps and far into the Rhine Valley. After a break and a rest at the summit, we take the marked hiking trail back to the mountain station or, if you prefer, directly down into the valley. We return in the afternoon, having enjoyed an impressive climbing experience in a unique setting.
We say goodbye back at the Selun railway and travel home individually.
